VC funding! We’ve all heard the terms "Series A", "Friends & Family Round" and so on…

But what does the terminology mean? And more importantly, how do Venture Capitalists assess value?

During the Meetup, we'll explore the methodology for conceptualizing whether a product or service has market value and acceptance potential, from a venture capital perspective. We will further discuss some tools to assess value longevity, capture the methodology on how to launch a new product or service utilizing Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), and introduce best practice approaches towards maximizing revenues through maximizing the customer experience.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Details
With the accelerated adoption of agile and multi-disciplinary teams known as ‘Pods” Product Design, as a profession, is on a trajectory to demand generalist designers over specialized ones. In response to this eventual pivot “The Product Design Playbook" is a comprehensive collection of methodologies and concepts that will guide designers and teams alike to build high quality products quickly and repeatedly.

For this Lean-Agile event, concepts covered will span across the spectrum of continuous agile product development. The presentation is intended to communicate a direct approach to help designers and teams discover and understand what to expect through learning about situational concepts to leverage at any given time throughout the continuous product development process.
Rich Sheridan will explore what an intentionally joyful culture must choose as its focus. He will discuss what joy looks like, feels like, how it is organized. Along the way, you will be confronted by paradoxical approaches of how workplace noise increases productivity, how two people at one computer outperforms hero-based organizations 10-to-1, how rigor and discipline emanate from a shared-belief system, how transparency conquers fear, how all of the disciplines you study including agile, lean, and six sigma when done well are really about building human relationships at the intersections of business and technology, between project management and software development, between development and design and how quality can be a natural result of a team built on trust.

In this fast-paced era, we do our best to balance work schedules with our personal lives, but can all suffer from work and information overload. To keep pace with the constantly changing priorities among our competing workflows, we all come up with our own ways to balance our professional and personal relationships along with the calendars. Kanban, is a means of visualizing current and future work that we have, along with the way it’s carried out. The same framework can be applied in our own lives as Personal Kanban. Join me in understanding this approach that is simple, clear, and commonsensical - Personal Kanban - that offers opportunities for achieving better balance as we set our daily tasks.
___________________________________________________________
About the Speaker: Ashwini Vijaykumar is an agile scrum master.

While Agility involves responding to change, Antifragility involves gaining from disorder; and while Agility emphasizes embracing change through inspecting and adapting, Antifragility emphasizes embracing chaos through adapting and evolving!

As a result of the proliferation of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, going beyond Agility is quintessential --- individuals, teams & groups, and organizations & enterprises are embracing the quest for Antifragility to realize greater employee engagement and market innovation & disruption!

If you’ve embraced any degree of Agility, don’t miss this opportunity to go beyond Agility and explore Antifragility. We’ll introduce and demystify Antifragility, and explore how individuals, teams, and organizations can immediately put it into practice.

Since first coming across Kent’s original ‘white book’ in 2000 I’ve been a proponent of ‘agile’ software techniques. I’ve been on both high- and low-ceremony teams, been to more than a fair share of meetups and conferences, and yet I still believe that the Agile Manifesto (http://agilemanifesto.org/) is the best grounding for any team I’ve been part of.

In this session I’ll be looking at why I keep coming back to the manifesto, and why I recommend other teams do the same.

Mike has spent 15 years in the software development industry, and a fair few more before that spending time programming in strange computer languages when he really should have been socializing. His first program moved a robot turtle around the floor - he still remembers it fondly. Mike spent 4 years at ThoughtWorks in the early 2000s where he was part of the blossoming agile software movement, running open source projects and speaking at conferences. Since moving to the US in 2006 Mike has spent time in various technical and management roles at the New York Stock Exchange, DRW Trading, and most recently as VP, Engineering at Intent Media where he manages the 50 person (and growing!) technology team.

We take for granted that the systems we work on now are social systems. Sites like Amazon have used user-generated content for over 20 years. Twitter and Facebook are each about a decade old. But even though social systems are now commonplace, the methods we use to design, build, and launch them are still based on techniques we developed while working on last-generation technology. So how can product teams cope?

As agile and lean practitioners know, iterative methods play an important part in our work on these systems. In recent projects, Josh Seiden has been working with teams to link these methods together in a “learning-from-live-systems” approach. In this talk, Josh will take a deep dive into a recent project that illustrates this way of working. Come hear how the team behind Taproot Plus was able to invent and launch an online marketplace for skilled volunteers in just a few months. Online marketplace projects like this one can easily burn through budget and never launch. Instead, we've been live since nearly Day One. Come see how our small team of designers, developers, and product managers has carefully launched and developed this new business in a way that minimized spend and risk, and maximized the chances of success.

Event Description:
Research can improve team synergies which create opportunities for better products and a team that is happier with their results. In this meetup Jonathan will share insights for how research can be used to create both a user-centric culture and a catalyst for team bonding. Whether you are looking to introduce an internal research practice for the first time or looking to improve on an existing one learn how these methods can work for you. The second half of the event will be a group exercise to uncover bottlenecks in your own organization implementing user research and how this can be solved.

Event Info
In this lean and agile age, more and more teams are doing some level of user testing on their own. Many of them find, however, that getting a user to talk is not as easy as it looks. Users don’t always want to talk, or they’ll get started on the wrong topic. Sometimes they lack the words to express how they feel about an interface or product. Sometimes they think everything is “fine.” How can you dig deeper to get more info from a user, especially if they are digging in their heels? How can you get people talking, keep them on topic, and find out what they are really thinking? Join us on December 9 to learn some of the professional UX researchers’ tricks of the trade.

Bill Rinko-Gay has over 30 years experience in Software Development, most of that time in QA. Bill’s career and the Software QA profession progressed together until Bill realized that Agile was the demonstration that the QA profession had failed to deliver. Since 2005 Bill has been helping to re-imagine Software QA in light of Agile methods, taking advantage of the specific skills and knowledge of the QA SME and incorporating that into Agile’s self organizing teams.

Description of Meetup

Over the past several years, Lean Startup and Customer Development have become wildly popular movements amongst startups looking to test their ideas. Larger firms and enterprises have also begun to adopt these methods into their operations. In this hands-on session, we will share examples of how firms are applying these methodologies within their organizations. The group will then practice testing their own ideas using tools such as the Business Model Canvas. Please come prepared with an idea (either your own or from your organization) that you are looking to test and feel comfortable sharing with the group. Looking forward to a fun and interactive session!
The study emphasizes both Reflection-In-Action and Reflection-On-Action within Agile teams.
It showcases this concept within Agile Ceremonies:

It also points out that when teams are working at an unsustainable pace, they often remove their opportunities to be reflective and minimize their opportunities to improve.

While the concepts in the article should not be new to experienced agile practitioners, the Reflective Agile Learning Model (REALM) is worth looking into more. I am also encouraged that studies like this are being done.

Read more at:
http://computingnow.computer.org/cms/Computer.org/ComputingNow/issues/2014/07//mso2014040051.pdfAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06902008450715493414noreply@blogger.com0
